Creating Jump Host (Windows VM)

This document outlines the steps to create a Windows jump host virtual machine in Microsoft Azure. The jump host provides secure, controlled access to the cluster resources and the database.

Steps to create the Jump Box

1. In the Azure portal search bar, search for virtual machine and select Virtual machines service.
2. Click Create to open the Create a virtual machine screen.
3. In the Basics tab, enter the following details:

   1. Subscription: Customer subscription

   2. Resource Group: ad-int-cus-demo-rg-010

   3. VM Name: ad-int-cus-demo-jumphost-vm-010

   4. Region: Same as VNet

   5. Availability options: No infrstructure redundancy required

   6. Security type: Standard

   7. Image: Windows Server 2019 or 2022

   8. Size: Minimum Standard_D4s_v4

      1. Administrator account
      2. Username: As per policy

   9. Password: Strong password (store in Key Vault)

   10. Inbound port rules:

       1. Public inbound ports: None

   11. Licensing: Select the checkbox if you want to avail Azure Hybrid Benefit.

4. Select the Networking tab and enter the following details: 
   1. Virtual network: ad-int-cus-demo-vnet-010.   
   2. Subnet: jumphost-subnet
   3. Public IP: Create new
   4. NIC network security group**:** Basic
   5. Public inbound port: None
5. Select the R****eview + Create tab to review the configurations.
6. Click Create at the bottom to complete the creation of the Jump Box.
